Google snippet checker

Google cuts off titles and descriptions by width in pixels, not by a fixed number of characters. Check how yours fit on desktop and mobile and see exactly where they would be cut.

How long can a title and description be?

Google shows about 580 pixels of a title. With its font that is usually 50 to 60 characters, but wide letters like W and M take more room than i and l. Descriptions get about 920 pixels on desktop and about 680 on mobile, roughly 155 and 120 characters.

Put the main keyword and the reason to click at the start, so they stay visible even when the end is cut. Google can also rewrite a snippet when it thinks another part of the page answers the search better, so this check is an estimate.

Questions

Why pixels and not characters?

Because Google truncates by display width. A title full of wide capital letters gets cut sooner than one with narrow letters, even at the same character count.

Is a short title bad?

A title under about 30 characters often wastes room you could use for the topic and a reason to click. Aim for 30 to 60 characters with the main keyword first.
